Recently I had the chance to try out the DEERC RC helicopter, so today I’m going to share what I thought about it, specifically my flight experience. After all, this is currently a pretty popular option, so hopefully this helps some of you decide whether it’s worth buying.
Unboxing and review of the DEERC RC helicopter
Once I took everything out of the box, I could see what was included. Basically, it comes with the helicopter, the remote control, two rechargeable batteries, and some spare propellers.
One thing I found interesting is that the batteries charge via a USB C cable, which is definitely appreciated. I previously tried the Syma S107, and charging on that one was super slow since it used USB A, and it was even recommended to charge it through a laptop port.
I really like the design. It has that classic look you see in action movies, but with a modern touch.
Flight test
I have to admit, I always struggle a bit the first time I use a remote control vehicle, especially since every brand has a different calibration, so it’s pretty normal for me to run into a few surprises.
I also have to admit it crashed once into a tree, but it handled it pretty well, so that’s a solid durability test. Aside from that little scare, it was pretty easy to start controlling it. After just a few attempts, I already felt like a pro flying it.
So if you’re wondering whether this works for kids, adults, or beginners, I would definitely say yes.
I have a fairly open outdoor space, so I don’t have to worry too much about obstacles. I always recommend that when flying any RC vehicle like a plane, helicopter, or drone, you keep obstacles in mind, because accidents can happen, and the last thing you want is an unnecessary headache because of it.
The DEERC RC helicopter has a really good range, although that’s largely thanks to the 2.4 GHz remote. I probably reached a maximum height of around 7 meters (23 feet), but according to the manual, it can go up to 20 meters (66 feet) in height and has a maximum range of 30 meters (98 feet).
In my case, I didn’t want to take it too far because I have a lot of vegetation around me, so it was pretty easy for it to blend in if it got far enough. But I guess I’m just being cautious.
How long does the battery last?
This was another aspect I really liked about this RC helicopter. It includes two rechargeable batteries with very good battery life. Each one lasts up to 13 minutes, for a combined total of about 26 minutes of flight time.
If I compare it to the Syma S107, we’re talking about roughly 270 percent more battery life, since that one only gives me about 7 minutes at most.
The fact that both batteries charge using a USB C cable helps reduce charging time. Each battery takes only about 40 minutes to charge, and in my experience, other batteries can take over an hour to fully charge.
What I didn’t like about the DEERC RC helicopter
Even though it’s pretty easy to control, it feels a bit light. Most of the time that won’t be an issue, but even slightly moderate wind can move it around easily and make it harder to control.
I also wish the classic Apache style design didn’t make it blend in so much, but again, that’s more of a personal situation because of the vegetation where I did my flight tests.
Is it worth it?
If you’re a beginner and looking for a fun gift, this definitely passes my test. It’s also quite affordable, and I’m honestly impressed by the battery life. There’s not much more to add, it does what it promises, it’s fun.
